At this stage, what else could we tell you about YouTube, the video streaming service owned by Google and that has been reducing the productivity of workers all over the world for the last 10 years, interrupting study sessions, filling the Internet with cat videos and making you go to bed much later than what you should? Well, there's more to it as this Internet monster that can be used to consume all sorts of audiovisual contents now comes along with an online subscription television service.
What is YouTube TV?
That's the name of this newest invention by the video portal and that allows us to access a selection of TV channels by means of a monthly payment that are now available online and via streaming. For the time being, it offers us access to 40 channels, including subscription cable channels of general and thematic nature: ABC, NBC, ESPN, FX, Syfy, Sports Network, National Geographic or Fox, amongst others.
OK, so apart from working like an online television platform, why should you register as a user? Basically, because it comes along with advantages that other services don't offer, such as the unlimited recording and storage on the cloud of any program or broadcast so you can watch it whenever and wherever you want.
Your favorite cable TV channels, now online.
Remember that we're not talking about an alternative service to HBO or Netflix, as the latter work like an on-demand service. This is rather an alternative to other cable TV operators that offer us different television packages.
Main features
- Recording functions with unlimited cloud storage space.
- 6 users per account with independent credentials.
- 3 simultaneous streams per account.
- Compatibility with Chromecast and Google Home.
There are versions for both iPhone and Android that allow us to enjoy this service on our smartphone or tablet. In other words, you can record whatever you want to watch and then play it wherever you go.
How much does it cost? About 35 dollars per month. But there's a catch. For the time being, the service is only available in some of the largest cities in the USA. When will it come to your town or country? Nobody knows.
